Cheatham County was created on February 28, 1865 by an act of the Tennessee General Assembly and named after Edward S. Cheatham, who was speaker of the State Senate.
Its courthouse was built in Ashland City in 1869 and placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. It stands as a reminder of all the rich history that Cheatham County has to offer. This is a growing area for residents who want to be near Nashville, but like a bit more rural feel.
